CSIR Exam Format for 2023

The following table provides an explanation of the CSIR Exam Pattern 2023 for both Section Officer and Assistant Section Officer selection. The exam pattern is shown in the table below for candidates.

The first three papers are standard and required for all positions; those who pass all three will be invited to an interview and a computer proficiency test.

2.1 Exam Pattern for Paper 1 of the CSIR SO ASO in 2023

General Awareness and English & Comprehension are two sections of the CSIR Exam Paper 1. This section contains one-mark, objective-type questions. A deduction of 0.33 points is given for each wrong response. The exam lasts two hours and has a total score of 100 for this paper.

2.2 Exam Pattern for CSIR SO ASO in 2023 for Paper 2

The 200 objective questions in Paper 2 of the CSIR Exam Pattern 2023 comprise mental: ability, reasoning, and general intelligence. Each question is worth one mark. For each wrong response, there will be a deduction of 0.33 marks. This paper is timed 150 minutes.

2.3 Exam Pattern for Paper 3 of the CSIR SO ASO in 2023

Paper 3 (English/Hindi) of the CSIR SO and ASO test is a descriptive type. There will be 150 marks overall for this paper. Paper 3 will comprise Essay, Precis, and Letter/Application Writing. One hundred and twenty minutes is the overall time duration.

 General Intelligence: It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. The test will also include questions designed to test the candidate’s abilities to deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationship,Similarities and Differences, Space Visualization, Problem Solving, Analysis, Judgement, Decision Making, Visual Memory, Discriminating Observation, Relationship Concepts, Arithmetical Reasoning, Verbal and Figure Classification, Arithmetical Number Series, Arithmetical Computation and other Analytical Functions.The test will include questions on Analogies,  Non-verbal Series etc.
